Submission Guidelines

Here’s my advice- Listen to a few of my stories first.

What I am looking for are stories that inspire, or focus on moral or social values. They may be religious in nature, but should NOT promote or denigrate any specific religion or sect.

What I want:

Short Stories 1000- 2,500 words.

Reprints and repods are swell. Multiple submissions too.

I will generally accept fantasy/sci-fi/real life stories that can be fiction or non-fiction, humorous, inspiring, enlightening or demonstrative.

Understand that I will choose the stories that reflect the values as I see them. In the podcast, after I read the story, I will share my feelings about the theme. My opinion may differ markedly from yours.

I reserve the right to reject any story for any reason.

If you submit a real life story, please change the names of characters, to protect their privacy, and my liability.

Please include word count and bio information along with your story in the body of the email. You may attach as an rtf or doc file instead but it’s slightly less convenient for us.

I currently offer 1.5 cents per word for stories 1000-2500 words long. In some cases I will accept stories longer than 2500 words. If I solicit you for a story I usually negotiate a price that is higher than my standard pay rate.

Stories under 500 words (including 100 word Drabble stories) are published on a pro bono basis at this point.

Response time is 1-4 weeks. All submissions are responded to.

That’s about it- email stories or questions to importantthingstome@gmail.com

What I'm doing here.

In my little world, in the blog-sphere, everyone that I know is doing a podcast. That might be because I keep my iPhone plugged into my ear all day, and listen to podcasts.

So, now it's my turn to start a podcast. It was inevitable, I'm sure. We will see if I really do it, and how long it lasts.

I call my podcast, "Important things to me." I have been writing in a weekly podcast at Great Hites, for the last several months. I intend to continue to contribute at that site, but I find that the stories that mean the most to me seem to fall on disinterested ears.

I hope that by creating this podcast I will be able to share the stories that I feel have social and moral importance. One story each week, with commentary about why I think the subject is important.

I also intend to post stories by other authors and will take submission of stories between 1500 and 2500 words, for which I am willing to pay a small amount, if I agree with the subject. (See submission guidelines. If you can't find any, I haven't written them yet.)

I have only four stories at this point. Once I figure out how to make an RSS feed, and edit my stories with comments, I will begin my podcast. I don't want to start something that I can't continue, so I will have to see how my new writing goes, while editing the stories I currently have. If I can't keep up, I will have to re-evaluate my plans.
